First Day in the Class…

Ms. L supplied another intern and I with a sample of a quiz, a unit plan, and some exerpts of text. She was very informative about how to deal with adjusting to a curriculum based on giving students choices, and empasized the importance of having to continue to be creative to engage student participation. Also, the death of a young man in one of one of her students had a dramatic effect on her students who knew the boy, and the ability to refrain from showing emotion was difficult, as many students were obviously upset. All in all, my first day was very nerve-wracking yet exiting.

My Professors, Thus Far…

It would seem that, due to my unanswered questions, that sufficient assistance isn’t being offered from my instructors. Yet, in the end I find myself answering many of the questions. During the courses in which I feel utterly lost at first, I usually gain the most from them as my thought process is continuously checked. Persistence coupled with effort  bring forth maximum opportunity to learn in these settings where challenges chase your sanity away.

My First Thoughts About the Block Experience

Thus far, my experience at AHS has been extremely informative. Being able to get the feeling of being in a high school setting prior to having to actually teach rids me of many apprehensions I have experienced so far. The supplementary instruction that we receive for classroom management and relationship-based learning, along with Mr. Raymond’s presentation regarding unorthodox teaching styles will benefit my approach as a teacher.

It seems as though many of the problems or setbacks I faced as a student are being addressed (appropriately enough) at the same time used to prep me to become an efficient teacher. The learning process has come full circle with me and I anticipate much exploration in efforts to optimize my strategies and approaches as an educator. This “full circle” concept makes me wonder what our kids will have to address because of our mistakes.
